Equine Periodontal Exam Kit

In horses, an oral examination is an essential part of an annual physical examination. Regular examinations can allow identification of dental problems while they are still in the early stage and decrease the possibility of more severe dental conditions which may lead to other serious health issues.

Horses aged 2 to 5 years may require more frequent dental exams due to rapid change in dental structure while senior horses have an increased risk of developing periodontal disease.

Periodontal disease is the most common cause of tooth loss. Calculus (tartar) is one of the reasons. Calculus is most commonly found on the canines, incisors, and buccal aspect of the cheek teeth.
