Clinical Uses of Otoscope Specula
In a clinical setting, the speculum serves as the critical interface between the Otoscope and the patient’s anatomy. Its primary function is to straighten the external auditory canal and provide a protected pathway for light and magnification.

Procedural Guidelines
Choose the 2.5mm tip for infants and young children.
Select the 4mm tip for adults to allow for maximum light entry and a wider field of view.

Attachment: Twist or snap the speculum firmly onto the otoscope head to ensure it does not detach during the exam.

Disposal: Once the exam is complete, the speculum should be ejected and discarded. The specula are disposable and must not be used more than once. 

Clinical Note: Always inspect the speculum for any sharp edges or burrs before insertion to ensure patient safety and comfort.
